Why Choose Stainless Steel Air Motors?

Find out the new Fiam case study

Use of air motor: activation of the rotary pin of the "closing / opening" devices of the ribs, covering sheets applied to the trucks trailers.

Application

The customer manufactures and sets up special trailers for trucks operating in agro-food transport. There is needed to automate the closing and opening of the lateral covering ribs of the trailers, which is normally carried out manually with a lever system, with a crank that greatly slows down the loading / unloading phases of goods.

The solution proposed by Fiam concerns the design and production of a customized pneumatic motor in stainless steel: a material also used for the trailer components, both for reasons related to hygiene and for resistance to corrosion considering the frequent washing, even with aggressive detergents, to which the vehicle is subjected.

Advantages of stainless-steel air motor

1. COMPACT AND STRONG

Its size is one fourth of an equivalent electric motor and this makes it fit to install in areas with reduced space. Although compact, it is capable of handling high loads unlike an electric motor which, for the same capacity, should have very large dimensions and difficult to install in the truck.

2. EASY FEEDING

Even the essential power to run the electric motor would not be sufficient if the derivation were one or more 12V batteries. The ideal choice, therefore, can only fall again on the air motor, since the compressed air, already present and deriving from the braking system of the truck, is more than enough to operate it.

3. WATER AND HUMIDITY RESISTANT

The use of stainless steel avoids corrosion problems and is therefore suitable where frequent cleaning and sterilization activities take place such as in the agro-food sectors.

4. STALL TORQUE ACHIEVEMENT WOTHOUT DAMAGE

The air motor, in addition to opening the ribs, also carries out the reverse operation of closing the covering sheet, which once completely unrolled is hooked to metal brackets and tensioned. This operation forces the motor to rotate in an inverse manner and to remain in stall torque for a medium-long period, never generating any overheating.

Also this case study highlights Fiam's ability to satisfy customers with various tailor-made solutions, for many applications and in any production environment.
